Needless to say, one of the more important reasons any company would want to enforce its presence online, via means of a website, blog or on a social media platform, is to boost its reach and maximize connectivity with its target audience. With an exponential number of people hooked on to the internet now, an online presence makes the most sense. Virtual recognition is also likely to be one of the most economically viable options.
Another reason that is just as important is the desire to widen and extend the outreach to potential new customers. With the worldwide web now offering a plethora of options and solutions at your fingertips, SEO, or search engine optimization, may just be the best tool to increase a company’s visibility online.
What is SEO and how does it impact our business you ask? Quite simply – it is the process of affecting the visibility of a website in a search engine’s un-paid search results. The “higher ranked” a website is, that is the first mention or more frequent mentions appearing in the search results, the more traffic it will draw from users. SEOs have different kinds of searches including image search, local search, academic search, news search and video search.
As an online marketing strategy, SEO works on the premise of how search engines functions. It takes into play factors like what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords, and which search engines are preferred by their target audience. Given the current trends favouring social media platforms, your content has to be just as relevant and worthy of a second look. Then sit back and let the power of social media (e.g. sharing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc) multiply and expand your target base.

The previous point highlights the importance of having meaningful and relevant content. While good and unique content has a great flow on effect and will always contribute to improved SEO, we’re not just talking about editing your content to meet the needs of your audience! Well edited HTML and coding will prove beneficial on many levels too. By ensuring that your HTML codes are properly manicured at all levels, the relevance to certain specified keywords will increase.

It takes a team
If there is one thing you can take away from the previous two points, it would be the importance of coordination and cooperation between the different sectors of the company. With all that said, keep in mind that adopting a SEO strategy may not be appropriate for all websites. SEO is a long term strategy and in certain cases, other internet marketing strategies could prove just as useful. The effectiveness of SEO as a strategy depends on the goals of the company and the quality of the actual web page – whether it is able to engage and persuade virtual visitors while getting the desired message across.
To measure the effectiveness of the implemented campaign, SEO or otherwise, it may be a good idea to set up an analytics program (read more on its importance here!) that would enable the company to keep track of its performance and determine the appropriate course of action thereafter.
